Free shuttle services have been launched to transport people receiving a Covid vaccination to the NHS Nightingale Hospital, located near the Nissan factory.

Three new shuttle services have been launched which stop at the NHS Nightingale Hospital which are free to use by showing proof of your vaccination appointment (letter, email or text):

  • The Connector Shuttle will run up to every 15 minutes, connecting with Go North East’s 56 service at Concord, offering frequent connections from Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland. The service runs seven days a week, from just after 5am until around midnight each day.
  • The Metro Shuttle provides a frequent service to the NHS Nightingale Hospital from Heworth interchange, connecting with the Metro and many other bus services.
  • The Sunderland Shuttle service runs every 20 minutes from Park Lane Interchange in Sunderland, Pallion and Castletown.

Travel on the shuttle bus services is free by showing proof of your vaccination appointment (letter, email or text).

The no. 50 service from South Shields to Durham operated by Go North East will also stop at the NHS Nightingale Hospital.

Nexus has also agreed with local bus operators to allow passengers with a concessionary pass to travel before 9.30am if they are attending a vaccination centre. This means that travel on local buses in Tyne and Wear – and Metro if they have a Metro Gold Card – will be free when showing proof of a vaccination appointment (letter, email or text).
